The Comprehensive Plan is the Town of Bernalillo’s foundational policy guide concerning the location, character, and type of growth and development in the community over the next 20 years. It seeks to enhance the qualities that make Bernalillo a special place to live and work, and celebrate the rich history and culture stemming from its settlement along the Rio Grande with the Sandia Mountains as its backdrop. The Comprehensive Plan recognizes and celebrates the traditional culture and deep history of Bernalillo. It anticipates change to occur and provides guidance for future decision making and administrative and legislative actions. The Comprehensive Plan is intended to guide the creation of future planning documents and land use regulations that facilitate the community vision, help shape the visual appearance of the community, and preserve Bernalillo’s unique sense of place and cultural heritage as the community continues to grow. Consensus Planning was engaged to lead the public engagement process and complete the Comprehensive Plan in coordination with a Steering Committee appointed by the Mayor. The Comprehensive Plan is designed to be action-oriented, easy to read, and functional.
