The Town of Edgewood is unique in that it lies within Santa Fe, Bernalillo, and Sandoval counties. It is located along the Interstate 40 corridor within the Estancia Valley and east of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains of central New Mexico. The Edgewood Comprehensive Plan seeks to preserve and enhance those unique qualities that make Edgewood a special place and identify changes and action steps that are consistent with the community’s aspirations for the future. The planning policies and implementation strategies contained in the Edgewood Comprehensive Plan were crafted to guide decision-making regarding the physical growth and development of Edgewood over time, prudent investments in improving infrastructure, transportation corridors, and facilities, and continued cooperation with local and regional agencies and organizations.

The Comprehensive Plan’s various planning elements each contain written narrative, photos, metrics, and maps that describe existing conditions, identify issues and opportunities, and articulate goals, objectives, and strategies to ensure the community vision is achieved. The Comprehensive Plan features a Future Land Use Scenario, which graphically illustrates the community’s vision for growth and development over the next 20 years. The Implementation Plan, a key element of the Comprehensive Plan, identifies a projected time frame and responsible entity for accomplishing each of the strategies identified within the planning elements.

Key planning themes that run throughout the Comprehensive Plan include:

  • Create a sense of community character and identity unique to Edgewood.
  • Create a vibrant town center/community focus area.
  • Strive to diversify and grow the local economy.
  • Diversify Edgewood’s housing stock.
  • Invest in improving roadways and increasing mobility options.
